William H. Backenstose of West Grove William H. Backenstose, 75, of West Grove, formerly of E. Fallowfield and Parkesburg, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 7, 2011. He was the husband of Ethel Wise Backenstose with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Born in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late William and Alene Matthews Backenstose. Bill was an area resident all his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960. He was employed by Philadelphia Electric retiring in 1993 as an estimator/designer. After his retirement he was employed at the Chester County Airport. He was a member of the Brandywine-Goddard Masonic Lodge #383 F.&A.M, the Shriners; the NRA, the VP-44 Squadron; the AOPA and the West Caln Sportsmen's Club. He is survived, in addition to his wife, by his son, Timothy Backenstose, husband of Holly, of Downingtown, daughter, Tammy Deranleau, wife of Greg, of Colorado; three grandchildren, Amanda Backenstose of Gaithersburg, Md., Hunter Backenstose of Downingtown, Camille Deranleau of Colorado; and sister, Denise LaMar of Bowling Green, Ky.; cousin Lois Gamble of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, David Backenstose. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, at the Oxford United Presbyterian Church, 9 Pine Street, Oxford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Neighborhood Hospice of Chester County, 795 E. Marshall St., West Chester, PA 19386, or to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607. Hi Bill, Just found out about your web site. Looks great and impressive. I wanted to provide you with some update info on my self and my former wife, Virginia E. Hoopes, also Class of 55. Virginia died on 28 December 1990 after a two year battle with cancer. We have three children. Married to Christine L. Rutledge on 18 November 2000 Retired from the U.S. Navy and working part time for Fairfax County Park Authority. Enjoying semi-retirement and taking lots of cruises on other than "Big Gray Ships" Chris is a Special Education teacher for Fairfax County. We spend most of her school breaks and summers at our Lake House on Lake Anna.

We sold our house in Pa. in June of 2002 and moved here permanently and so far so good. We have met a lot if interesting people. Snork has his 22ft boat which we love. He does a lot of fishing and we enjoy crabbing too. We go to the Florida Keys in January and February just to get away from the cold. It is so nice and lay back there and the people are wonderful.

'Crossed That Rainbow Bridge'
Durango resident Janice B. Malogrino died at Mercy Regional Medical Center on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009. She was 72
Mrs. Malogrino was born to John A. and Mary Emma (Gay) Otter in Kingston, N.Y., on Sept. 5, 1937. She grew up in Coatsville, Pa.
After a divorce, she moved to Miami with her four children, where she began her career with Eastern Airlines as a supervisor in reservations.
On Aug. 20, 1976, she married Joe Malagrino in Miami. The Malogrinos moved to Salt Lake City and then to Durango, where they settled down and lived happily, her family said.
In Durango she worked as a travel agent for Klatt Travel until she retired in 2001. After retirement, Mrs. Malagrino spent time in her garden, with her family, and making plans to move with her husband and daughter back to Florida. She was looking forward to enjoying the sun, the beach, old friends and distant family.
"Throughout her life, Janice touched the lives of everyone she met," her family wrote. "She is remembered for her kind heart, her wisdom and her incredible compassion. She always had time to listen, she gave of herself selflessly and she always saw the very best in people."
Mrs. Malagrino was preceded in death by her sons Bradley Kent and Benjamin Kevin Boose.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Joe Malagrino, of Durango; daughters Brenda Lamiroy of Durango, Briana Boose of Salt Lake City and Dawn Ennis of Jupiter, Fla.; sister Ester Smith of Williamsburg, Pa.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Joe and I are both retired and working harder than before. Dont know how we even had time for jobs! We live in the country on 40 acreswith a view of the beautiful Co mountains. Have 1 chicken, 2 dogs, Daisy II and Jasper.

After High School I went to college for 12 years. BS Delaware Valley College, MS Cornell University and a PHD University of Wisconsin-Madison. I worked in Arizona and New Mexico for a while then took a job with the University Of California and stayed for 30 years with Lawrence Livermore National Labortory. I'm retired now with a "participating guest" status in my former Lab. I did the obligatory multiple marrages, finally marrying again in 1996 to a woman much younger and have a 7 year old daughter, Sierra. I also have two grown kids in their thirties. I did research in the Ukraine, Spain, Australia and Thailand. I'm still active in the Boy Scouts as a District Commissioner, like hunting ducks and turkeys, ride my bike in the park. I look forward to seeing all of my classmates.

William G. Solen of Coatesville William G. Solen, 74, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Brandywine Hospital. Born in
West Chester, he was raised by the late Clarence and Ophelia Smith. He was the husband of Janice Y. Johnson Solen, with whom
he shared 50 years of marriage. Bill was a 1955 graduate of Scott High School and served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He
had been employed at Lukens Steel, the Coatesville VA Hospital for 31 years and Royal Limousine for 15 years. He was a member
of the Amateur Pool Association, the VFW Post 865 in Parkesburg, the VFW Post 4480, the American Legion Post 865, the Atglen
Gun Club and the Scott High School reunion committee. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and riding motorcycles. In
addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Venessa Solen of Media and Paula Mayo of Coatesville; son, William G. (Deborah)
Solen, Jr. of Cochranville; sisters, Amy Gibbs and Sara Searles of Coatesville; brothers, Carl (Hazel) Johnson of Baltimore and
John Smith (Rosa) of Coatesville; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and host of other relatives and friends. Services will be
held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, at Hutchinson UAME Church, 825 Chestnut St, Coatesville, with a viewing beginning at 9 a.m.
Burial with military honors will be in the Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sickle
Cell Association of America, 5070 Parkside Ave., Ste. 1404, Philadelphia PA 19131. Arrangements are being handled by Wright
Funeral & Cremation Services of Coatesville.
