Ronald Earl Rowe of Glenside Ronald Earl Rowe, PhD, 77, a resident of Glenside, passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 at Abington Memorial Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. The husband of Marjorie Hope Scott Rowe, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in Aug. Born in West York, Pa., he was the son of the late Earl and Kathleen Stover Rowe. Ron was a graduate of West York High School class of 1955. In 1959, he earned a B.S. in science education from Millersville State Teachers College (now Millersville University). He later earned an MS for teachers from Cornell University. Ron received a National Science Foundation Scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1970 where he earned a Supervisor of Science Education Certificate, after which he went on to receive a PhD in 1976. His career included teaching science at Octorara High School; Chemistry and Science Education Chair at Scott High School/Coatesville Area High School; running the chemistry lab and TA at the University of Wisconsin; Assistant Professor at Beaver College (now Arcadia University) for 13 years during which he earned tenure, served time as Education Chair and was awarded the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1986. Finally, he worked for 10 years at Unionville-Chadds Ford School District as Science Supervisor and a physics teacher, retiring in 1999. Ron was active in Church all his life. Most recently, he was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church of Wyncote where he served as a Trustee and Elder. He served as an advisor of the Senior High Youth Group with Marjorie at Coatesville Presbyterian and Parkesburg Presbyterian. He was a Trustee at Christ Presbyterian, Madison, Wis. He joined Abington Presbyterian in 1976 and upon retirement joined Calvary. He also served on the Parkesburg Library Board. Ron was a lover of family, reading, car races and jazz. In high school he played piano for a jazz band at the Youth Club in York, and in college he played with a combo for school dances. In addition to his wife he is survived by daughter, Kimberly H. Rowe of Downingtown; son, Steven S. Rowe, husband of Dawn Dieterly Rowe, of North Hills, Pa.; and Karin L. Jackson, wife of Keith Jackson of Laurys Station, Pa.; grandchildren Larissa, Sabrina and Keira Rowe, Aleigha and Jacob Jackson and brother Richard Rowe, husband of Susan Rowe, of Henderson, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Gary Rowe, husband of Bronwyn Rowe of Ivyland, Pa. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service celebrating Ron's life at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, Calvary Presbyterian Church of Wyncote, 217 Fernbrook Ave., Wyncote, PA 19095, where relatives and friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Fern D. Wertz, 73 of Fresno died Monday, March 22, 2010 at Oak Pointe Nursing Home at Baltic. She was born October 29, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Pennsylvania, loved going to flea markets, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to travel through the mountains and spending time at the sea shore. She is survived her husband Benjamin Wertz whom she married February 27, 1957 and her two children Debbie Maurer of Sinking Springs, PA and Barry (Carol) Wertz of Parksburg, PA, sisters Doris Tricowski of Pottstown, PA and Evelyn Herr of PA, 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is preceded by her granddaughter Heather, her twin brother Frankie, 2 sisters Elva and Lina and brother Howard. Services will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home 1018 W. Main St. Sugarcreek. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Fresno. Friends may call on Thursday 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in her memory to any Animal Shelter.

After High School I went to college for 12 years. BS Delaware Valley College, MS Cornell University and a PHD University of Wisconsin-Madison. I worked in Arizona and New Mexico for a while then took a job with the University Of California and stayed for 30 years with Lawrence Livermore National Labortory. I'm retired now with a "participating guest" status in my former Lab. I did the obligatory multiple marrages, finally marrying again in 1996 to a woman much younger and have a 7 year old daughter, Sierra. I also have two grown kids in their thirties. I did research in the Ukraine, Spain, Australia and Thailand. I'm still active in the Boy Scouts as a District Commissioner, like hunting ducks and turkeys, ride my bike in the park. I look forward to seeing all of my classmates.

Geraldine B. Townsley, 73, of Thorndale, died Friday, July 29, 2011, at the Brandywine Hospital.
She was the wife of James N. Townsley, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.
Born in Lebanon, Pa., she was the daughter of Madelon Patton Sholly and the late Henry E. Sholly.
She was a 1955 graduate of S. Horace Scott High School.
Geraldine was employed by G.O. Carlson for 18 years prior to her retirement.
She was a member of St. Cecilia Church.
Surviving her, in addition to her husband, James, and mother, Madelon, are a son, James N. Townsley Jr.; and two grandchildren, Taylor M. and Nathan J. Townsley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at St. Cecilia Church, Sixth Avenue and Chestnut Street, Coatesville.
Family and friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Harris-Mountain Funeral Home, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville.
Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lebanon, Pa.

he shared 50 years of marriage. Bill was a 1955 graduate of Scott High School and served three years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He
had been employed at Lukens Steel, the Coatesville VA Hospital for 31 years and Royal Limousine for 15 years. He was a member
of the Amateur Pool Association, the VFW Post 865 in Parkesburg, the VFW Post 4480, the American Legion Post 865, the Atglen
Gun Club and the Scott High School reunion committee. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and riding motorcycles. In
addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Venessa Solen of Media and Paula Mayo of Coatesville; son, William G. (Deborah)
Solen, Jr. of Cochranville; sisters, Amy Gibbs and Sara Searles of Coatesville; brothers, Carl (Hazel) Johnson of Baltimore and

She was the wife of the late Pennock E. Simmers who passed away on December 23, 2006. She was born in Trenton, N.J., daughter of the late Wayne L. and Edna Henderson Stauffer. She was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church of Atglen where she was an active member. Barb was an ambulance driver for Med Trans of Parkesburg for 24 years. She enjoyed going to the mountains, swimming, hiking, traveling and photography. Surviving is a daughter, Kim, wife of Anthony Winski of Coatesville, four step-children, Jeffrey Simmers of Pottstown, Sharon, wife of Joseph Puckett of Richmond, Va., Steven, husband of Theresa Dehart Simmers of Atglen, Sandy, wife of Bob Axe of Quarryville, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Terry Bates and Suzanne Glendenning. Ruth Ann Steczak, 79, of West Brandywine Township, passed away at her home on Friday, June 2, 2017. She was the beloved wife of John Steczak with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Ervin C. and Ruth Mae Mexill Armentrout.
Ruth was an area resident all her life. She was a devoted mother giving her time, energy, and heart to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her unwavering love and devotion to her husband was an inspiration to all members of her family and friends. Ruth had volunteered as a Girl Scout leader guiding each girl with skills and laughter as they began their life’s journey. She was employed in the cafeteria at the North Brandywine Middle School.
She is survived by three children; Joanne Kornet and husband Paul of West Chester, Susanne Johnson and husband Nelson of Denver, PA and John Bryan Steczak and Patricia Tamborello of Media, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc. 1117 Country Club Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17316.

Christopher Kerry Strate was my father, he passed away on March 23, 1986. He married my mother Barbara Ann Barnum on their graduation day from Penn State June 6, 1959. Ianthe L. 'Tiny' Moore, 71, of Malvern, passed away on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at the Phoenixville Golden Living Center.
Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Ruth Baker Taylor.
An area resident her entire life, Tiny was a 1955 graduate of Scott High School.
She was employed by Lukens Steel as a data recorder, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the West End Fire Company Auxiliary, the Polish American Club and the Coatesville Bible Fellowship.
She is survived by three daughters, Elsie Korth of Lancaster, June Kipp, wife of Raymond, of Thorndale, and Angel Moore of Malvern; her husband, Norman L. Moore of Christiana; three grandsons, Russell, John and Jason Korth; four great-grandchildren; and eight siblings, Gladys Baker, Gloria Scott, Patricia Caudill, Barbara Wilson, Mervin Taylor, Cynthia Thompson, Dottie Mae Thompson and Willis Taylor.
She was preceded in death by siblings John, George and Robert Taylor, and Doris Lewis and Ruth Penzzoni.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, PA 19365, followed by interment in the Atglen Presbyterian Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing at the funeral home, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

I had called her when we had our Fiftieth Reunion. She was living in Malvern at the time.

Born in Coatesville, PA, he was the son of the late Loyd Franklin Wallace and
Emily Ligget Wallace. He was a graduate of Scott High School in Coatesville, PA.
He was a loving husband, father and brother. He was a resident of Bluffton, SC for
the past 12 years. He is survived by daughter, Kelley W. Templet of Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, son, Robert S. Wallace Jr. of Vero Beach, Florida, two grandchildren
Kyle and Cody Templet, and brother L. Franklin Wallace of Coatesville, PA. He was
predeceased by one brother W. Scott Wallace of St. Paul, Minnesota and a sister,

Obituary for John N. "Jack" Welsh
John N. “Jack” Welsh, 81, of Coatesville formerly of West Chester died Saturday, March 4, 2018 at his daughter Susan’s home.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Neal D. and Marie Witmer Welsh and the husband of the late Nancy Ann Martin Welsh with whom he shared 59 years of marriage before her death in March 2016.
Jack was a 1955 graduate of Coatesville High School and was active with the reunion committee.
He served in the US Air Force during the Occupation of Korea, where he served as a weather broadcaster.
Jack was a time study technician at Lukens Steel Co for 26 years, he was bartender and manager of Exton Lodge for 15 years and was a car wholesaler with Scott Honda for 20 years.
Jack was an avid collector of war memorabilia. He also enjoyed attending car shows and restoring cars with his brother, Bill.
Jack is survived by his son David Welsh of St. Louis, MS; and his daughters Susan Smith and her husband Scott of Coatesville; Kelly Whitworth and her husband Wayne of West Chester; and Kathleen Daniels and her husband Brandon of Glenmoore; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one sister, Susan Crager and her husband Jim of Florida and one brother, Bill Welsh of Coatesville.
Jack’s memorial service will be held Friday, March 16, 2018 11:00am where family and friends may call beginning at 9:30am at Wagontown Fire Company 412 W Kings Hwy, Coatesville, PA 19320.
Interment will be in the Welsh family Cemetery, All Saints Cemetery, Paradise.

Married 48 years to first wife and have 4 children and 8 grandchildren. One spoied cat, retired twice. Still work 6 days a month operating and auction for Scott Honda and restoring a 1948 Jeep.
So sorry to have to report that Ann Welsh, Jack's wife, passed away after a long & courageous battle with lung cancer.
Ann was always so supportive of all the time Jack devoted to our reunion committee.
We will all miss seeing her at the reunions. Glad she was able to make our reunion last year.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11 am at the Wentz Funeral Home located at 342 East Chestnut Street in Coatesville.

Ocean Pines Joanne W. Thompson Joanne Wenger Thompson, age 76, died peacefully at her home on February 10, 2014. Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late John B. and Anna Snyder Wenger. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, James E. Thompson, Sr. and children; Sharon Klein and her husband Edward of Abbeville, AL, Rhonda Hartman of Lancaster, PA, Jeanne Blaettler and her husband Eugene of Port Angeles, WA, Jodie McLaughlin of Wilmington, and James E. Thompson, Jr. of Wagontown, PA. She was preceded in death by a daughter Juliann Thompson in 2003. She was an adored grandmother to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. There are numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Thompson moved to Ocean Pines 20 years ago when her husband retired. She was an active member of Faith Baptist Church, and a homemaker. She loved gardening and was a skilled fisherman, out fishing Mr. Thompson most of the time. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Faith Baptist Church, at 2:00 PM. W. Arthur White III, 72, of Lancaster, formerly of Coatesville, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Hospice of Lancaster County Inpatient Unit, Mount Joy.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late W. Arthur Jr. and Mary Booth White, and the husband of Jacquelyne Lockwood White of Lancaster, formerly of Atglen, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.
Art was a member of St. Malachi Church, Doe Run.
In 1955, Art graduated from Coatesville High School.
He worked as a lineman for Worthington Steel for many years.
Art was a member of the VFW Post 7418, Gap, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge # 297, Coatesville, and a life member of the West End Fire Company, Coatesville.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960.
In addition to his wife, Art is survived by his four children, Michelle Malavolta and her husband, Lewis, of Parkesburg, Michael White and his wife, Lori, of Coatesville, Colleen White of Malvern, and Bridget Panichello and her husband, John, of Phoenixville; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Jonathan Malavolta, and Michael and Jenna White; sister, Cindy Hall and her husband, James, of Coatesville; brothers, David White and his wife, Frances, of West Chester, Barry White and his wife, Jill, of West Chester, and Gregory White of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Maureen White.
Art's funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, at St. Malachi Church, St. Malachi Road, Doe Run (Cochranville).

Pearl M. "Tootie" Wills, 70, of Coatesville, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, following a brave battle with leukemia.
She was the wife of Henry L. Wills, who died in 1980 after 24 years of marriage.
Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Pearl Speakman Wilson.
She was a 1955 graduate of Scott High School and worked as a secretary for the Coatesville Area School District and Dr. Samuel Abrams.
Tootie was a member of Marshallton United Methodist Church and the Brandywine Senior Circle.
She is survived by a son, Richard L. and his wife, Paula McGinley Wills; two daughters, Audrey Lapp and her husband, David, and Cheryl Raysor and her husband, Robert; a sister, Lorraine Young; two brothers, Lawrence S. and Roy Wilson; and five grandchildren, Matthew Lapp, Laura, Evan and Nathan Wilson, and Collin Raysor.
She was preceded in death by siblings Ann Pratt, Mickey and John Wilson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the Harris-Mountain Funeral Home, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, where friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Interment will be in Hephzibah Cemetery.

He was the husband of Ethel Wise Backenstose with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Born in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late William and Alene Matthews Backenstose. Bill was an area resident all his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960. He was employed by Philadelphia Electric retiring in 1993 as an estimator/designer. After his retirement he was employed at the Chester County Airport. He was a member of the Brandywine-Goddard Masonic Lodge #383 F.&A.M, the Shriners; the NRA, the VP-44 Squadron; the AOPA and the West Caln Sportsmen's Club. He is survived, in addition to his wife, by his son, Timothy Backenstose, husband of Holly, of Downingtown, daughter, Tammy Deranleau, wife of Greg, of Colorado; three grandchildren, Amanda Backenstose of Gaithersburg, Md., Hunter Backenstose of Downingtown, Camille Deranleau of Colorado; and sister, Denise LaMar of Bowling Green, Ky.; cousin Lois Gamble of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
