'Crossed That Rainbow Bridge'

Durango resident Janice B. Malogrino died at Mercy Regional Medical Center on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009. She was 72 Mrs. Malogrino was born to John A. and Mary Emma (Gay) Otter in Kingston, N.Y., on Sept. 5, 1937. She grew up in Coatsville, Pa. After a divorce, she moved to Miami with her four children, where she began her career with Eastern Airlines as a supervisor in reservations. On Aug. 20, 1976, she married Joe Malagrino in Miami. The Malogrinos moved to Salt Lake City and then to Durango, where they settled down and lived happily, her family said. In Durango she worked as a travel agent for Klatt Travel until she retired in 2001. After retirement, Mrs. Malagrino spent time in her garden, with her family, and making plans to move with her husband and daughter back to Florida. She was looking forward to enjoying the sun, the beach, old friends and distant family. "Throughout her life, Janice touched the lives of everyone she met," her family wrote. "She is remembered for her kind heart, her wisdom and her incredible compassion. She always had time to listen, she gave of herself selflessly and she always saw the very best in people." Mrs. Malagrino was preceded in death by her sons Bradley Kent and Benjamin Kevin Boose. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Joe Malagrino, of Durango; daughters Brenda Lamiroy of Durango, Briana Boose of Salt Lake City and Dawn Ennis of Jupiter, Fla.; sister Ester Smith of Williamsburg, Pa.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. No services are planned at this time

Joe and I are both retired and working harder than before. Dont know how we even had time for jobs! We live in the country on 40 acreswith a view of the beautiful Co mountains. Have 1 chicken, 2 dogs, Daisy II and Jasper.

Spouse: Virginia

Christiana, Pa 17509

Retired with 36 years at Lukens. Currently bons manager for the Christiana Borough. Married to Virginia Evens and have four children and five grandchildren.
Laverne D. (Bud) Rettew passed away tuesday May 6, 2014 peacefully at age 76. Bud passed away due to complications from congestive heart failure and kidney failure. He is survived by wife of 50 years Virginia Rettew (Evans) and his four children, Steve (Lorie of Downingtown), David (Christiana), Susan Singh (Ocean City, Md) and Andy (Colleen of Coatesville) and five grandchildren. Born in Coatesville, Bud was the oldest son of Laverne and Francis Rettew of Pomeroy. He is also survived by brother Dennis and sister Diane DeLuca. Bud lived a full life of family activity and service to the community. He worked for the former Lukens Steel for 37 years in various data processing and information technology assignments. His real avocation was family and community. As you can see above, his immediate family has remained in the local area and Bud was involved with them extensively over the years. His weekly trips to tag sales are legendary; these trips were shared routinely with other family members. Bud was involved virtually his entire adult life in service to Christiana. He has served in various town functions since 1967 until his retirement last July. He started as town secretary and then treasurer and finally for the last 20+ years as Borough Manager. Along the way he was also the Justice of the Peace during the 1970s. He constantly worked to improve the function of borough government and his crowning achievement was obtaining the grants and developing the plans for the Christiana library. In 2011 Bud received the President’s Award for 40 years of service to Christiana Borough. The Borough Hall has been named in his honor. Bud served on the Octorara School Board from 1976 to 1991; serving in many roles including president for several years. He was also the Octorara School Board representative to the Chester County Intermediate Unit from 1976 to 1991 and was president of that unit from 1988 through 1991. On Nov 20, 1996, Bud was recognized in the Hall of Fame for that unit. In his spare time, Bud wrote a book, “Treason at Christiana”, which detailed the Christiana Riot. This event was an armed engagement involving a runaway slave and people seeking to find him and return the slave to the south. Bud was an active member of the Christiana Historical Society from its founding in 2000 until his death. Bud was also a member of the Lancaster Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society. He was a member of the Christiana Masonic Lodge No 417 for more than 25 years. Bud will be missed by a wide array of family and friends and also Christiana residents who may not have known him but certainly benefitted from his dedication to the borough. There will be a greeting time on Thursday, May 8, from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana with a service at 8:00 p.m. conducted by the Christiana Masonic Lodge. Interment will be private in the Friendship Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Bud’s memory to the Moore’s Memorial Library, 9 West Slokom Avenue, Christiana, PA 17509. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth St., Christiana. Online condolences can be posted at
