James "Go-Go" Edward Hines, 72, of Coatesville, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2008, in West Chester.
Born, March 25, 1936, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Richard and Stella Johnson Hines.
Mr. Hines attended and graduated from Coatesville Area schools.
He worked for more than 30 years in the Coatesville Area School District, first as a bus driver and later as a mechanic, retiring in 2003.
Earlier in life, "Go-Go" did myriad things. While in high school, he ran track and played football. He was a tailor, owned and operated his own dry-cleaning business, worked at Lukens Steel and was known by children when they patronized his ice cream truck.
He was always on the go; hence the nickname "Go-Go."
He was a member of the Coatesville Branch of the NAACP.
Mr. Hines loved to traveled, loved the blues and jazz, and played the guitar and a little piano.
He is survived by one daughter, Karen Waters of Coatesville; three grandchildren; and five whom he raised as his own with his beloved longtime partner, the late Evelyn Marie Stroman: Kashante Stroman of Norristown, Robyn Scott of Ashburn, Va., Kevin Stroman of Coatesville, John Stroman of San Jose, Calif., and Deborah Stroman of Columbia, Md.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Adolf Hines, Argina Massey, Grover Ponder Hines and Leonard Hines.
A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, July 23, at 6 p.m. at Milestone Events, 600 E. Market St., West Chester.
Friends are invited to greet the family from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
Interment will be held in Rolling Green Memorial Park, West Chester.
Donations in his memory may be made to Neighborhood Hospice, 400 E. Marshall St., West Chester, PA 19380.
